From a Rural Pound to My Best Friend: Canelo’s Story and the Best Friends Walk

In 2021, my life changed forever when I adopted Canelo through PetRescue. Canelo was sitting in a rural pound, scheduled to be put down. He was saved with only days to spare by an incredible foster carer who gave him a second chance. I saw his listing the day after moving out of home and instantly fell in love. 24 hours later and he was coming home with me. Since that day, Canelo has brought pure joy to my world, putting a smile on my face through every season of life. Every single rescue pet deserves the exact same chance to find their human and live their best life.

That’s why Canelo and I are taking part in PetRescue’s Best Friends Walk—to help homeless pets find their forever homes.

Since launching in 2004 as Australia’s very first platform of its kind, PetRescue has connected over one million rescue pets with loving families. Their platform brings thousands of vulnerable animals face-to-face with potential adopters every day, completely free of charge for rescue groups and adopters alike.
