Our Amy's Journey: Why Adopt Don't Shop Matters
On May 23rd this year, our lives changed forever when we welcomed Amy into our family. She wasn't from a fancy breeder or pet store – she was waiting patiently, hoping someone would see her potential and give her the loving home she deserved.
Amy's story is exactly why we're passionate about the "adopt don't shop" movement. Too many people think they need to go to breeders to find their perfect companion, but the truth is, shelters and pounds are filled with incredible animals – including puppies – just waiting for their forever families. The key is staying patient for that perfect match and trusting the process.
Finding Amy taught us that adoption isn't just about visiting once and hoping. It's about tracking shelter websites, like this handy website of PetRescue, submitting applications when you find a potential match, and having faith that the right pet will find their way to you. Amy proved that patience pays off – she's been the most wonderful addition to our family.
That's why I'm taking part in PetRescue's Best Friends' Walk to help other homeless pets find their best friend, just like Amy found us. Since PetRescue launched in 2004 as Australia's first website of its kind, it has been the vital connection for over 930,000 rescue pets and their new families.
