Why I Am Doing This

While pregnant, I was feeling down and lonely. I didn’t have any friends or family in Perth, and Stuart was away working. I felt extremely isolated. We went and visited the RSPCA a few times and that’s when I absolutely fell in love with wanting a cat. I pestered and pestered Stuart until he finally said yes, and Goomba came home. We like to say he chose us, as he literally threw himself out of the cage. We knew it was a sign from the universe.

We don’t know much about Goomba’s past, but we know he was found on the street, alone and probably scared. He had contracted FIV and needed to be indoor. He wanted to trust humans, but he wasn’t quite there yet.

We have had Gooms for nearly a year now and he’s made such a dramatic impact on our lives. He’s still getting used to the baby, but has accepted Stuart and I and will come for pats and cuddles whenever he wants. He is extremely food motivated and loves his chicken necks.

This year, I am setting myself a challenge to get out and about more and walk at least 100km to raise money for the homeless pets in Australia who are looking for their best friend. While Goomba won’t be coming with me (I think he’d just have a heart attack on the spot), I will have the support of Stuart and Gus.
